Wellington did the old switcheroo on us once again. A beautiful sunny day turned into a veritable cyclone down at Wakefield, with the Frothers coming up against the Masters Barons.

The Barons had a bit of a reputation for being a well put together team, even with the “Masters” tag attached. The Frothers are doing their fair share in terms of Masters ages these days anyway, so it was unlikely to be an uneven contest.

First Half

A fairly even affair, likely more due to the wind than any footballing stalemate. Neither side could pose a real threat on goal. The closest chances were a suspiciously generous pass from Cory to the opposition striker, who put it straight over the bar, and a Yarride header that came off his shoulder and then sailed over the crossbar.

0-0

Second Half

More of the same at the start, with the Frothers unable to string together much free-flowing football in the conditions. It took a moment of magic to break the deadlock.

Lance picked the ball up outside the box, put his head down and dribbled past two or three players, turning the right back inside out before finishing cheekily with the outside of the boot into the bottom corner.

1-0

That was the inspiration the Frothers needed. They started playing a bit more footy and were kicking it around quite nicely, again without much threat of their own.

The second came from a passage of play with three passes in a row that may or may not have found their intended recipients, but was effective nonetheless. It led to a final ball from Yarride, which Sammy sliced in off the line.

2-0

Another win and another clean sheet to add to the quite sparse recent record.

Man of the Match

Quite a few good contenders this week. Lance gets a mention for a standout goal that broke the deadlock, and Sammy for his hard work on and off the ball and a well deserved goal. But the award goes to Campbell for easily his best game in a Frothers jersey to date. Composed on the ball, passes finding their men, tirelessly chasing people down the touchline, and a cheeky little back heel pass to round off the performance. Very well deserved.
